Greetings! My name is Mike True and I work from my studio apartment in Uptown , New Orleans, Louisiana. Let me take you sight-seeing, so-to-speak. From swamp scenes to the rumbling streetcars on St. Charles, my vision is immersed in the local scenery, fauna, flora, and architecture that I see every day, all around me. Since moving here in 2004, I made a point of drinking in all the varied styles of art and getting to know many of the local artists in the city. I began painting seriously in 2009, having retired due to heart/health issues. I continue to master the techniques involved in portraying impressionistic and semi-surreal images that capture the essence of my world. When my mind needs a challenge, I also do “pixelated” art, mixed media and abstracts.
I favor acrylic on canvas with many unique characteristics including the use of molding compounds that allow me to sculpt relief images directly onto the canvas, These 3-D elements are then lacquer sealed and hand-painted. I also embellish many of my works with hand poured paint borders, a technique learned from Jon Schooler, an early mentor of my New Orleans art experience.
My art can often be seen in and around local festivals, especially events Uptown on Oak Street. I also have art at Zotz on Oak Street and at Mimsie’s Carriage House Air B n B on the corner of Pleasant and Chippewa. Reasonably priced, it is my hope that my art might grace your walls and spark a light in your heart.
